Hillels of Westchester consecrates its new office and lounge.

On February 21st, prior to the first lay board meeting of 2012, Hillel students, staff, and board members gathered at the entranceway of our new lounge at Purchase College. Vice President of Student Affairs, John Delate spoke to the group about the valuable partnership the college has with Hillel. Rabbi Lester Bronstein, long-time Hillels of Westchester board member and Rabbi of Congregation Bet Am Shalom in White Plains, led the blessing over the mezuzah. He explained that the hebrew word "lik'boah" (to affix) refers to the idea "to make permanent." College students live in dormitories, their temporary home. By affixing the mezuzah, we create a kind of permanent home for our students. Neshamot Grant in Jewish Women's Leadership begins Spring programming with the Activist Toolkit.

Hillels of Westchester will hold it's first Spring semester program on Thursday February 9th at 7:00 PM in the Red Room of the Student Services Building at Purchase College with guest speaker Rabbi Joanna Samuels discussing "An Activist Toolkit for the 21st Century."

A second presentation, "An Esther Vashti Shabbat" will follow on Friday night, March 2nd (time and location TBD) at Sarah Lawrence College. Facets of the personalities and strengths of these two well-known women will be discussed as it relates to leadership skills. Both events include dinner and are opened to the public. Hillels of Westchester is grateful to the Neshamot Committee for awarding us this grant. The Neshamot Committee is a unique grant awarding arm within the UJA Federation of Westchester.
